Carmel Science Olympiad was my first and only experience in competing in Science Olympiad, and allowed me to gain a love for STEM and perhaps more importantly, a drive to spread that love. During my 4 years of competing, I earned 45+ medals, contributed to starting Carmel's winstreak at the State tournament that continues on to this day (6 years as of 2023), and led Carmel to an improvement of 15 places at the National tournament as a captain, putting us in the National top 10. We managed to work through new challenges like COVID to keep our prestige, and overall this experience is what solidified me as a passionate leader of any endeavor.

I had my first chance to write an exam and supervise an event as a high school sophomore at a low-income middle school in Indianapolis, and I loved doing it. Crafting a well-written test, seeing kids come it to take it, and being able to contribute to a day of fun for them was amazing. Additionally, since tests were shared nationally, a lot of other teams took it as practice and I received tons of good feedback and reviews, which really motivated me to give back more. Once in college, I was invited and paid to fly out to places like MIT and LA to supervise events due to my expertise, which helped me build a lot of experience to eventually host my own tournament! The process of volunteering itself, especially for a program that has given me so much, has been rewarding as well.

All this experience really came to a head when I founded Bulls Science Olympiad at USF. Despite having only a small team of Science Olympiad alumni, we grew with many motivated students on our team and managed to host our first virtual tournament with 900+ participants within 3 months of us becoming an organization, and an in-person tournament at USF with 230+ participants the next year. Additionally, we help co-run a local regional competition at Hillsborough Community College. The expertise required to pull this off is rare, but the need in Florida is there. I am proud to be able to make the best use of it and make my mark in the Tampa Bay STEM community, and based on our tournaments' feedback, many students were positively impacted by this organization as well.
